” I was the only one from my family who joined the forces

” I was the only one from my family who joined the forces. All of them pretty much discouraged me from doing so. During my passing out parade, I remember the Admiral telling all of us how we’ve taken a huge risk by making this decision-that we should not expect any rewards in the future because people have a habit of glorifying us for about two days and after that, they forget all about our sacrifices and go back to worshiping celebrities and politicians. When I look at the powerful, influential people in the country today, they seem like beggars to me, that is because they will never get the sense of honor and dignity that we get while serving for the nation. When you’re out during an operation, and come back at 3 in the morning only to see your buddy waiting for you with a warm cup of tea, you realize a whole new sense of worth. I asked him why he hadn’t eaten as yet to which he said that he would not eat until he saw that I was fed properly. Tell me where else can you ever find this kind of loyalty? We have reached a point where even shame is ashamed of how the forces are not respected or cared for in the country. Others know how to walk away from danger, but we are taught to walk through it and never let it get the better of us. Take an example, during a war, soldiers learn to lead a force into the enemy station and yes, out of a 100 at least 2 will lack the courage in doing so. But the leader will encourage the rest of the 98 to challenge the enemy and keep their eyes on victory. I really wish that those who run this country today understand that nothing can bring our spirit down, and nothing ever will.”
